Dr. Siba Sankar Mohanty is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Analytical and Applied Economics, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.
He completed his PhD from the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 2010 on “Economy, Ecology and Wellbeing: Some Interconnections in the Context of Marine Fisheries in Odisha” under the supervision of Prof. Praveen Jha. He did his MPhil in 2000 on “Poverty, Inequality and Economic Reforms: A Study of Pakistani Economy in the Era of Liberalisation” from the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, under the supervision of Prof. Mahendra P. Lama. He completed his Post Graduation from the Department of Analytical and Applied Economics, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar in 1997 and Graduation from the Department of Economics, Khallikote Autonomous College, Berhampur University, Berhampur, in 1995.
Prior to his current professional engagement, Dr. Mohanty has varied teaching and research work experience with organizations such as Department of Economics, Doon University, Dehradun (July 2010 – January 2016); National Campaign Coordinator, Wada Na Todo Abhiyan (June 2009 – June 2010); Policy Director, Discrimination and Social Exclusion, Network for Social Accountability (July 2007 – July 2009); Research Officer, Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability (November 2 – July 2008); and Research Associate, Nabakrushna Chaudhury Centre for Development Studies (February 2001 – July 2002).
He has worked on numerous research projects with several government and private organisations and autonomous bodies such as the NALCO Foundation; the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR); the Directorate of Statistics and Economics, Government of Uttarakhand; the PRATHAM Foundation; the International Budget Partnership- Washington DC; the Commonwealth Education Fund; the United Nations Millennium Campaign; the Global Climate Action Portal (GCAP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change; and the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ-RED). He has been an invited chapter-contibutor to the Economic Survey of the Government of Odisha for the financial year 2022-23 and the Economic Survey of the Government of Uttarakhand for the financial years 2021-22 and 2022-23. He has also worked as a consultant with the National Commission for Enterprises in the Un-organised Sector (NCEUS) under the Government of India.
Dr. Mohanty is a passionate academician, researcher, social scientist and activist who has several journal publications, book segments and newspaper articles to his credit, broadly covering areas such as environmental and ecological economics, agricultural economics, developmental economics, political economy and public policy. He has been invited for guest lectures in several institutions in the state of Odisha. At present, he has four PhD degree awarded under his supervision.
