Dr. Nitya Nanda

Visiting Professor of Economics

Dr. Nitya Nanda, an esteemed economist and public policy analyst, possesses over 20 years of extensive expertise in research, consulting, and education. His focus lies at the nexus of economics, society, and the environment, specifically delving into the political economy and legal dimensions. While his primary work encompasses India and South Asia, he also delves into the complexities of South-east Asian and African nations.

Having spearheaded over 40 research and consulting projects, with a significant portion as the lead investigator, Dr. Nanda has conducted fieldwork across India and globally. Presently, he serves as the Director of the Council for Social Development in New Delhi, a distinguished institution addressing social development concerns. Previously, his tenure included roles at prominent institutions such as the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), CUTS International, and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).

Graduating from the University of Calcutta and attaining his master’s and Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Dr. Nanda has left an indelible mark through around 130 research publications in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and monographs. He has contributed extensively to policy formulation for various UN bodies, governmental ministries, and committees, exhibiting a profound commitment to advancing social and economic development. Additionally, he has authored and edited several impactful volumes, including significant works on global trade rules and India’s industrial policies.
