B.Sc Economics Eligibility: Who Can Apply and What You Need to Know
Understanding BSc economics eligibility is the first step toward making an informed decision — and this article gives you everything you need.
Basic B.Sc Economics Eligibility Criteria
To apply for either the B.Sc Economics 3-year or B.Sc Economics Honours 4-year programme at VSEP:
- Class 12 (10+2) from any recognised board — CBSE, ISC, Tamil Nadu State Board, or equivalent
- Any stream is eligible — Arts, Commerce, or Science
- No specific subject requirement: Economics, Mathematics, or Commerce not mandatory
- Minimum 50% aggregate in Class 12 (subject to VSEP’s admissions guidelines)
All three streams are eligible. Arts. Commerce. Science. If you finished Class 12 from a recognised board, you can apply.
Does Your Class 12 Stream Matter?
No. At VSEP, the curriculum is designed to bring students from all backgrounds up to speed. Whether you studied Physics, History, or Accountancy in Class 12, Year 1 builds the mathematical and analytical foundations you need.
Do You Need Prior Knowledge of Economics?
No prior economics knowledge is required. The B.Sc Economics programme begins from first principles — microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematics, and statistics from the ground up.
Eligibility for Honours vs 3-Year
The eligibility criteria are the same for both. The choice depends on your career goals:
- B.Sc Economics (3 years): Strong foundation, faster entry into careers or postgraduate study
- B.Sc Economics Honours (4 years): Research and specialisation in Data Analytics or Health Economics
