Assistant Professor

Mr. Balamurugan brings a wealth of expertise in environmental economics, blending two years of teaching and six years of research experience. His academic journey was propelled by the ICSSR institutional doctoral fellowship and the Elizabeth Adiseshiah Ph.D. fellowship during his Ph.D. programme at the Madras Institute of Development Studies, Chennai. Demonstrating his commitment to excellence, he successfully passed the UGC NET and Tamil Nadu SET exams, earning qualification as an assistant professor.

In addition to his current role as an assistant professor at VSEP, Balamurugan extends his knowledge as a visiting faculty at the esteemed Madras School of Economics, Chennai. His pedagogical interests encompass environmental economics, business economics, and research methodology.

Balamurugan’s professional journey intertwines with impactful policy-oriented research ventures. He has contributed to projects at the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management and the Madras Institute of Development Studies, funded by the World Bank and the Government of Tamil Nadu, respectively. His scholarly output includes the publication of eight research papers in peer-reviewed journals, alongside presentations at various national and international conferences.

Driven by a fervent research curiosity in economic valuation of ecosystem services, cost-benefit analysis, environmental impact assessment, and institutional approaches for environmental management, he aims to spearhead research projects that offer valuable insights to guide governmental policies on sustainable natural resource management.
