Dr. Pritam Datta

Health Economics

Dr. Pritam Datta is a development economist and public policy expert specializing in public finance, health economics, and industrial economics. He is currently Fellow II at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP), New Delhi, where he has been actively engaged in research and policy advisory since 2019.

He has joined VSEP as a Visiting Faculty, contributing to teaching and academic engagement in Health Economics and Public Policy. He has also served as Guest Faculty at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi. In addition, he is a member of the Institutional Review Board at the Institute for Financial Management and Research.

Dr. Datta holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Jawaharlal Nehru University. His research spans health financing, labour markets, industrial development, and economic geography.

He has published widely in reputed journals and contributed to policy research supported by institutions such as WHO, USAID, and the Government of India. His work bridges academic research and policy practice, offering valuable insights into India’s development challenges.

Dr. Saikat Sinha Roy

Visiting Professor of Economics

Dr. Saikat Sinha Roy is Professor & Head, Department of Economics, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Till recently, he was the Coordinator of the UGC Centre for Advanced Studies (SAP III), Department of Economics, Jadavpur University. Earlier, he was also the Joint Director of School of International Relations and Strategic Studies, Jadavpur University. He holds an M. Phil. and a Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, done at the Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram, India. Dr. Sinha Roy’s areas of academic interests include Open Economy Macroeconomics, Trade and Development, Applied Trade Modelling, Applied Economics, and Issues relating to the Emerging Market Economies. Prior to joining Jadavpur University, he was a Fellow (Associate Professor) at the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), New Delhi. He also worked briefly at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), India Resident Mission, New Delhi. He was a British Academy of Social Sciences/ESRC/AHRC Visiting Fellow to the Department of Economics, Lancaster University in 2009. He was awarded Siksharatna, an award to an academician for excellence, in 2022 by the Government of West Bengal.  He is a Member, Standing Technical Committee of Experts to Review Exim Bank’s Export Leading Index model to Forecast India’s exports, Exim Bank of India, Mumbai, and Member, Technical Advisory Committee, Social Science Division, Indian Statistical Institute. He was also a Member, Steering Committee for Promotion of Exports for West Bengal, Department of Commerce and Industry, Government of West Bengal. He is associated with the Elmhirst Institute of Community Studies, Santiniketan, and the Kanika Bandyopadhyaya Centenary Celebrations Committee. Recently, he completed a British High Commission, New Delhi, funded policy research project on “State-level Exports, Competitiveness and Trade Promotion Policies: The Indian case study”. Currently, he is part of a global research team working on a multi-country research project titled “Special Economic Zones: A force for good to reduce inequality?” being funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (a Foundation formed by Central Bank of Sweden). He has published in various national and international journals, monographs and in edited volumes. One of his recent co-edited books is titled International Trade and International Finance: Explorations of Contemporary Issues published by Springer.
